Exploring new neighborhoods on a sleepy Sunday morning to find a winding lake side road guarded by a limpkin is a gift. As we read historical books and notes by explorers and settlers, we wanted to share bits and pieces of Florida with others. "Sketches of Florida," became our title. In trying to capture bits of our lives with sketches and paintings, we were also capturing bits of Florida.
It is somewhat presumptuous to claim that we have truly captured Florida. Impossible! One could no more capture this magical land by picture and words than one could capture all the mosquitoes at Honest John's Fish Camp. In "Sketches of Florida," we attempt to communicate a vanishing way of life and the urgency to capture what we can, somehow.
